BBIX Partners with TOHKnet to Provide “OCX (Open Connectivity eXchange)” Cloud-based Network Service

BBIX to add OCX Connection Site at “Sendai Chuo Data Center”

BBIX, Inc. (“BBIX”), a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp. that operates an Internet Exchange (IX) business, has entered into a business partnership agreement with TOHKnet Co., Inc. (“TOHKnet”) to provide “OCX (Open Connectivity eXchange),” a cloud-based network service. With this partnership agreement, BBIX opened an OCX connection site at TOHKnet’s “Sendai Chuo Data Center (Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture)” on July 1, 2026.

OCX is a cloud-based network service provided by BBIX and BBSakura Networks, Inc. (“BBSakura”), a network solutions provider and subsidiary of BBIX. OCX provides on-demand, highly secure, low-latency, scalable connectivity services to cloud services and data centers used by customers.

TOHKnet, an affiliate of the Tohoku Electric Power Group, is a premier telecommunications provider delivering enterprise-grade connectivity solutions across the six prefectures of the Tohoku region and Niigata Prefecture. Since its inception in 1992, the company has remained dedicated to providing highly reliable, secure, and premium-quality services, powered by a robust proprietary fiber-optic network spanning over 50,000 kilometers.

Driven by the rapid adoption of cloud technologies and the accelerating demand for digital transformation (DX), the need for agile, high-performance network connectivity is surging across TOHKnet’s service regions. In response to this market shift—and to further elevate cloud infrastructure—the partnership has launched a new OCX connectivity site at “Sendai Chuo Data Center.” Leveraging highly resilient facilities alongside this premium OCX access site, TOHKnet delivers end-to-end, integrated solutions. Beyond seamless cloud connectivity, TOHKnet’s offerings encompass full-lifecycle support, including network design, deployment, operations, and maintenance. This strategic enhancement empowers organizations across both public and private sectors to effectively navigate their DX challenges and fortify their Business Continuity Planning (BCP) initiatives.

Furthermore, as the initial phase of its OCX utilization, TOHKnet plans to launch “OCF (OCX Compute Fabric)” virtual server services. OCF is a regionally distributed cloud service provided by BBIX and IDC Frontier Inc. By introducing this OCF-driven, regionally distributed cloud infrastructure, TOHKnet aims to deliver highly secure, premium cloud connectivity environments alongside robust IT solutions.

By integrating its proprietary network services with the high-quality, secure OCX platform provided by BBIX and BBSakura, TOHKnet will deploy a comprehensive platform to drive digital transformation (DX) across its core business areas—the six Tohoku prefectures and Niigata Prefecture. Through the optimization of IT infrastructure operations, TOHKnet remains committed to supporting the sustainable growth of its customers.
