IDC Frontier and BBIX Launch OCX Compute Fabric (OCF)
Service Utilizes OCX to Distribute Cloud Infrastructure Across Regional Data Centers
IDC Frontier Inc. (“IDC Frontier”), a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp. engaged in cloud services, and BBIX Inc. (“BBIX”), also a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp. engaged in Internet Exchange (IX) services, have launched “OCX Compute Fabric” (‘OCF’), a service that utilizes BBIX’s cloud-based network service “Open Connectivity eXchange” (“OCX”) to distribute cloud infrastructure across regional data centers.
Background and Purpose
While migration to mega-clouds has become commonplace for enterprise cloud adoption, new challenges are emerging. For regional companies in particular, the concentration of major mega-cloud regions in metropolitan areas often leads to communication delays due to physical distance, making migration to mega-clouds unsuitable. Additionally, data sovereignty considerations can also present barriers to migration.
Conversely, for regional data center operators, local carriers and system integrators (SIers), maintaining their own infrastructure to serve as a migration destination imposes significant cost and operational burdens.
Against this backdrop, IDC Frontier and BBIX are launching “OCX Compute Fabric (OCF).” This service adopts a business model enabling regional data center operators, local carriers and SIers to deploy cloud services without owning assets. It provides a practical and optimal solution addressing regional needs for “low latency and data sovereignty” that mega-clouds cannot fully meet.
Key Features of OCX Compute Fabric
1. IDC Frontier’s Cloud Platform Based on VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)
Leveraging its extensive experience developing and operating VMware-based cloud services, IDC Frontier utilizes VMware Cloud Foundation(VCF) as its foundation. This enables integrated management of compute, storage, networking and security, delivering a cloud platform that balances stability and scalability.
2. Nationwide Distribution via BBIX’s “OCX”
BBIX’s “OCX” enables the distributed deployment of cloud services across regional data centers
3. Service deployment by regional data center operators
Regional operators can resell “OCF” as their own product to end users. They can also mutually utilize “OCF” resources registered by other operators. All operations, from resource procurement to customer contract management, can be completed within the “OCF” management interface, enabling smooth business expansion.
